CONFLICT RESOLUTION: MEDIATION, MENTORING & COACHING

For when families face loss and legacy

Mediation: A Confidential and Flexible Alternative

Mediation is a confidential and flexible process used to help resolve disputes without going to court.

As a mediator, I don't take sides or make any decisions. I facilitate the participants to have a difficult conversation.

I help everyone communicate better than they've been able to do so far to unlock what is making participants stuck.

What is Mediation really about?

It's about perspective. Yours and others.

It's about a conversation. A super productive one.

It's about things in slightly different shades. Stripping down to the conflict's raw ingredients.

It's about trying to find a solution you can live with.

But only if you want to.

But you do want to. Otherwise you wouldn't be here.

How I can help

I specialise in emotionally complex disputes - often involving family, grief or long-standing tensions. Disputes with an emotional core.

I bring a mix of legal knowledge, mediation experience and counselling skills to the table.

I'm known for being personable with a tool-kit of soft-skills including my studies of emotional intelligence and NVC. I use these skills to help participants explore resolutions around their core values and needs.

Mediation is not a legal discipline. But it can certainly help that I'm ACTAPS trained and my work as a consultant solicitor is 100% inheritance dispute litigation.

Most of my mediation practice centres around 1975 Act claims for financial provision or the validity of a will.

As a business owner for twenty years, and a business mentor, I can also help with disputes around family businesses and partnerships.

My Approach

I want to help you have a conversation. To help you clarify and understand both your take on the dispute, and the take of the other individual(s) involved.

I come to the process with heart and compassion, but with a steely determination to challenge.

Life doesn't run smoothly for any of us, and mediation looks to focus on the pragmatism to a dispute that is jointly blinding the participants. My job is to help with the optics.

My style of mediation is facilitative, with a sprinkling of transformative. I believe disputes with an emotional core are more than a negotiation.

My Structure

If you have not worked with me before, please feel free to book an introductory call or join one of my introductory informal webinar chats.

Here's what you might like to know:

I am aim to make the process leading up to mediation simple and efficient.

You can secure a date on my site immediately. If we need to move the date later, I can usually accommodate this.

Once a date is secured, parties will receive automated paperwork prompts and all parties can complete all paperwork electronically. We can go analogue if preferred.

For each Mediation, I include as standard a pre-mediation call around a week before the Mediation.

Optional exercises are given to participants prior to the Mediation.

My Specialities

I mediate mainly Financial Provision claims, Will Invalidity claims, and Executor disputes. But so do many mediators. So what else do I bring to the table?

Here's what you might like to know:

I work part-time as a contentious probate consultant solicitor. Resolving inheritance disputes is all I do.

I completed a three year course specialising in contentious probate disputes (ACTAPS).

I've trained with the National Bereavement Service because most of the disputes I have helped resolved concern people struggling in grief. I wanted to better understand how I could help.

I've trained at Level 2 for counselling skills because I want to be sure I can offer skilled communication with my clients at this distressing time.

What I can also help with

Sometimes business and family legacy combine. I can help shareholders and key players of a family business decide how to restructure.

I can also help with landlord and tenant disputes, holiday disputes and some workplace employment claims.

Here's what you might like to know:

I've been a landlord and a tenant multiple times.

I ran a medium sized business for twenty years and I work as a business mentor.

My business was travel and subscribed to the mediation scheme for holiday claim disputes.

I managed HR in my travel business.

I subscribe to the fixed fee scheme for these types of claims as detailed on my fees page.

What I can't help with

I cannot help with MIAM (Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings) which are specific processes in family law proceedings. You need a specialist family court mediator with MIAM training.

I cannot help with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).

I cannot help with complicated employment disputes where proceedings are underway in an Employment Tribunal.

BUT, where I can't help, I probably know an awesome mediator who can, so please ask.
